Sony VAIO M officially announced for Europe

Sony UK has confirmed that the VAIO M netbook will indeed launch soon in the local market. New information revealed by Sony reveals that the netbook will be available in white as well as black and that it will be slightly heavier than initially expected, at about 3.1lbs. A six-cell battery should provide about eight hours of operation for the netbook, however.

Specs such as the 10.1-inch, LED-backlit screen, a 250GB hard drive preloaded with Windows 7 Starter Edition and the 1.66GHz N450 Atom have been confirmed, along with the inclusion of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A Motion Eye camera is integrated into the screen's bezel. Three USB ports, a VGA output, Ethernet jack and a microSD memory card slot round out the connections.

Sony stopped short of announcing pricing, but did say the netbook will come to UK stores by the end of March. An American release is likely to follow.
