No Android 2.1 update for Verizon Droid after all

Today's expected update from Verizon to endow Droid handsets with the latest Android 2.1 software has been delayed. The reason for this is said to be a bug that was found at the last minute. A screen capture from Verizon seems to confirm this case, though a new date for the release of the software has not yet been set.

The update was much anticipated, as it promises to fix a few shortcomings in the Droid's current software. It will bring multi-touch support in applications that support it, animated backgrounds, a night mode for the navigation feature and most other upgrades from the Nexus One's edition of Android 2.1.
