Panasonic brings 10.1-inch DMB TVs to Japan

Panasonic Japan has introduced two new portable VIERA TVs meant to sit in viewer's lap. Each delivers a resolution of 1024x600 from a 10.1-inch screen and carries its own digital TV tuner. The DMP-BV200 has a built-in Blu-ray player, while the DMP-HV100 gets a lower price of entry. The HV100 can play back digital videos from an SDHC card or USB connected device, with support for AVCHD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, AVCHD and ISDBT, while the BV200 can play back the same plus DiVX, JPEGs and MP3s.

Thanks to an accessory, users can also watch recorded content from their compatible VIERA DVRs wirelessly.

The two players have two 500mW speakers and a headphone jack. The BV200 has an HDMI output and, when playing back Blu-ray videos or watching digital broadcasts, is said to last 3.5 hours on battery. Recharging takes five hours. The HV100 has a lifespan of 2 hours and 45 minutes and takes four hours to recharge.

The BV200 is available either in silver or red, while the HV100 can be had in white, brown and orange. Panasonic expects the BV200 to cost the equivalent of about $1,000, while the DMP-HV100 is priced at around $720. Both are due for a Japanese release on April 23rd, and it's not known if Panasonic will release them in any other market; they would require different tuners to accommodate different TV standards.
