Nintendo general manager wants DS in schools

Nintendo's DS handheld may officially find its way into junior high schools in Japan if the company's general manager, Shigeru Miyamoto, accomplishes a goal mentioned on Friday. The console is already used for guiding tours in museums, galleries and aquariums in Japan, and Miyamoto wants to see it used as an educational aid as well.

"That is maybe the area where I am devoting myself (the) most," Miyamoto said in an interview. He added that the gaming console will begin to be introduced in junior high and elementary schools in Japan starting in the new school year.

Nintendo has regularly billed the DS as more than a gaming system, and with the DSi XL has pushed the series for web browsing and even e-book reading.
