Magellan details eXplorist GPS for geocaching

Magellan kicked off the week by introducing its eXplorist GC GPS device meant for geocaching, or placing location-specific 'treasures' for others to find. The device is preloaded with many popular geocaches from around the world and is rugged as well as waterproof. Its full color screen is outdoor viewable, and the device allows for paperless geocaching.

The eXplorist GC can connect to geocaching.com through a computer and a USB cable, where it can download from a library of updated geocaching locations. It uses a SiRFstarIII GPS chipset that is accurate to within 9 feet, allows for adding field notes and has the ability to create waypoints. It contains a worldwide basemap, active tracking and a trip odometer.

The Magellan eXplorist GC GPS will ship in April, priced at $200. Included in the price is a 30-day premium membership to geocaching.com.
