Sony's mainstream VAIO E gets new sizes in Europe
Sony started off the week with the rare launch of two different sizes for the VAIO E in Europe. Alongside the regular 15.5-inch model, the company now has 14- and 17-inch models that are both performance upgrades in addition to catering to different users. The 14-inch model is the most unique and has a much sharper 1600x900 display along with an upgrade to dedicated Mobility Radeon HD 5145 video. It still runs on a 2.13GHz Core i3 and comes outfitted with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.
At the opposite end, the 17-inch E gets a full 1080p screen as well as a faster 2.26GHz Core i5 and mid-range Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video. It shares the RAM and hard drive of its smaller counterpart, but replaces the standard DVD burner with a Blu-ray combo drive.
Prices for the two different sizes weren't mentioned, but should be higher than the £579 ($869) the UK charges for the 15.5-inch VAIO. The 17-inch model should be available in the next several days, but the 14-inch model should arrive slightly later with an early April release.
