Eye-Fi Connect X2 and Explore X2 debut

Eye-Fi today revamped the rest of its wireless SD cards to give them speed closer to that of the Pro X2, but at lower prices. The Connect X2 has the same Class 6 (6MB per second) minimum speeds and faster 802.11n Wi-Fi as the top-end card, and with the speed gets the distinctive Endless Memory mode. When switched on, the feature can provide an effectively unlimited amount of storage by deleting photos off of the card once it's out of capacity and they're confirmed uploaded to a target site.

As the basic model, the Connect X2 shrinks to 4GB of capacity and drops pro features like RAW support and geotagging for the sake of its $50 price. An in-between model, the Explore X2, goes back to 8GB and restores geotagging at a $100 price. Both are available today and co-exist with the $150 Pro X2.

Eye-Fi at the same time as the launch also noted that it should now have free Wi-Fi access at AT&T's hotspots, giving card owners a way of uploading material wirelessly when at public access points that normally demand paid access.

    Great write-up, and

Thank you for the write-up. Just one small correction -- Class 6 is not just 6MBps. It's actually a curve at various block sizes, and our X2 cards will sustain 12MBps writes with many cameras.

    Thanks --

    Ziv.
