ThinkPad Edge gets larger, Core i5

Lenovo today swelled the ranks of the ThinkPad Edge considerably by adding its promised 14- and 15-inch models. The larger systems are more conventional and include their own DVD drives but are also faster. Either switches to Intel and starts off with a 2.13GHz Core i3 that can be upgraded to a 2.26GHz Core i5.

Both inherit the design traits specific to the Edge, such as the spillproof chiclet keyboards, large multi-touch trackpads and optional red notebook lids. The systems are already on sale at $649 (normally $869) and each come in standard trim with 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium on a 250GB hard drive and Intel's graphics. Better pre-built versions come with 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 Professional.

Most new orders should ship in less than two weeks.
