US Xbox to finally get 250GB as an extra

Microsoft this morning confirmed that its 250GB Xbox 360 upgrade drive is coming to the US. Relying on the unusual tactic of a Spotlight panel on the Xbox 360 dashboard, the company claims the drive is available "today" in the US but doesn't mention the price or features. No retailers currently list it as available.

The 250GB disk was recently made available as a stand-alone in Japan but, in other areas, has so far only been available in special edition Xbox 360 bundles that cost $400. Microsoft so far has only provided a 120GB drive as its largest stand-alone option for most countries, but it has been under pressure to change this as the ability to install games and the ballooning size of Xbox Live Arcade games have cut into free space.
