Peek admits it needs Hail Mary play
Peek today hinted that it's planning a major new product for the near future. The company didn't say what might be in store but was confident it would "blow away folks" beyond what it has already done with lifetime e-mail on the original Peek and its milder performance with the TwitterPeek. More news is expected soon.
The young firm added that such a big product launch would likely be necessary as it was "tight on cash." Peek has an adequate amount of customers and income but needs more to truly grow, Dan from the company said. Without a recent injection of venture capital, the company would likely run closer to break even and wouldn't have room to spend more and expand its base.
Much of the company's early success came from the original Peek and its immediate successor, the Peek Pronto. The TwitterPeek has received relatively lackluster treatment as the less urgent nature of Twitter, the lack of photo and web link support, and the rise of pocketable Wi-Fi devices like the iPod touch have given customers little incentive to try it in place of less connected but more flexible hardware.
