Carrier changing wireless Internet pricing
The Canadian carrier Fido is allegedly set to launch the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 handset on May 4th, according to an inventory screenshot posted on MobileSyrup. The leaked image indicates the device will be black, although earlier reports have yet to agree on the exact form of the housing and keyboard.
A leak early last year suggested RIM chose a sleeker design than the 8100 lineup, retaining the Pearl's SureType keyboard while adding an optical trackpad. A recent report, however, allegedly showed a full QWERTY layout that appeared to be a scaled-down version of the Bold 9700 keyboard.
As of June 1st Fido is reportedly dropping FidoUNO, while adopting a new pricing structure for data usage, according to the Boy Genius Report. Wireless Internet options are said to include a basic package with unlimited e-mail and IM for $15, while 1GB of data fetches $30 and 5GB brings the price up to 5GB. At the top of the list, 15GB of data carries a hefty price tag of $150.
