Garmin announces simplest Forerunner 110

Garmin on Monday has expanded its Forerunner lineup of fitness GPS watches with the Forerunner 110. When it ships, the Forerunner 110 will be the simplest and thinnest in the range; it should give runners key information without a complicated setup. Athletes should only have to press a start button to begin tracking, the company said.

The Forerunner 110 will show time and distance, as well as speed either in the current lap or mile or the entire duration of the run. A Garmin heart rate monitor can also monitor how hard they're working out with both a heart rate display and calories burned.

The watch also lets runners review their data, change auto-lap settings, set an alarm and edit the user profile. It's water-resistant and should be reasonably accurate with a new SiRFstarIV GPS receiver that can interpolate a position when the signal has been temporarily lost. Available colors will include black on gray, charcoal on red and gray on pink. Battery life is rated at up to eight hours in GPS mode and up to three weeks in a power-save mode. Users charge the battery and upload workout data to Garmin Connect over a USB connection.

The watch will log 200 hours of saved data and can share its information both through Garmin Connect as well as export it to Google Earth.

Despite the announcement, Garmin has not revealed price or launch information for the Forerunner 110.
