App supports easy tethering

Palm's webOS 1.4.1 update, currently being distributed to devices in Europe, reportedly supports Mobile Hotspot functionality for subscribers on O2's network. The latest offering provides the same basic features as the app for Pre Plus and Pixi smartphones on Verizon's network, allowing the devices to be used as a modem tethered via Wi-Fi.

Mobile Hotspot can be downloaded from the Pre App Catalog and supports secure WPA/WPA2 connections for up to five devices, with a range claimed to extend out to 50 meters.

The tethering utility appears to be limited to O2 Germany, a division that already allows handsets to be used as modems without paying extra fees. [via the::unwired]
