Microsoft hiring for Denver, San Diego retail stores

MS finally moves beyond trial stores

Microsoft has finally opted to expand its retail stores beyond its two trial areas, a pair of job listings have confirmed. Recruiting for spots in Denver and San Diego has confirmed that the company plans to at least double its presence beyond Mission Viejo, California and Scottsdale, Arizona. The exact locations haven't been given away.

The company was first rumored and eventually confirmed to be taking a wait-and-see approach on retail as it has wanted to gauge interest in Microsoft-run stores before committing to a wider deployment. So far, its two stores do sell real notebooks, phones and Zunes but are seen partly as retail "experiments" where the company wants to pass on what it learns to other retail chains.

Compared to Apple, which already has stores in Denver and San Diego, Microsoft's stores are believed to have at least moderate amounts of traffic. Its specific figures aren't known but, with future retail openings, are likely strong enough to justify additional stores. [via SAI]

    At This Rate ...

.. and presuming Apple stops building, MS should have as many retail stores out there as Apple come early 2035.

    Denver...

Probably the Cherry Creek Shopping District. It's a huge, high end shopping area, mix of indoor mall and standalone shops. Apple has been there forever, and it makes sense given Microsoft's other locations. Well, both of them. HAW HAW!

Sort of intrigued by the choice of Denver; up and down the front range (Denver/Boulder) I've found to be very Mac friendly. Several Apple retail stores, a few strong independent Mac shops, lots of small tech companies that seem more open to using Apple equipment, etc. I'd more expect Microsoft to target a more stodgy corporate metro area like Chicago.

    It's a runaway hit

Microsoft is just keeping the news quiet because they don't have enough staff to handle the huge traffic from the two stores. It's why they finally decided to double the number of stores to satisfy the huge demand from consumers. It's gonna be big.
