iPad arrives at customers' doorsteps

Despite sketchy UPS tracking information suggesting many iPads were stuck in China on Friday, the shipping company appears to have followed through with its promise of a Saturday delivery in most areas. MacNN obtained one of the highly anticipated devices, which arrived in Apple's minimalist packaging.

Apple includes few accessories, shipping the device with a standard sync cable and a 10W AC to USB adapter. Documentation consists of a single card showing basic functions, a fine-print guide filled with legal information, and two Apple decals.

After peeling off the protective plastic layer covering the iPad, the quality construction is evident before the device is even turned on. Although the overall form appears to be an oversized iPod touch or iPhone, the housing closely resembles the lid of a unibody MacBook Pro. Both share a slightly contoured surface, flat sides, black bezels, and a soft plastic ridge between the glass and the housing.

The LED-backlit display appears bright and crisp, while the 9.7-inch size presents full website pages without losing readability. Playing iTunes tracks through the internal speaker was surprisingly decent, considering the small drivers tucked beneath the glass.

We will be taking an in-depth look at the iPad's wider range of specific features and overall usability. Stay tuned for the full review.

    It looks stunning

For some reason, I wasn't expecting the iPad to have the matt back - I thought it would be just like the iPhone. This is much better, I think.
