Netflix not iPad-only, 3rd-party iPad apps shown

Netflix has confirmed that it will launch a version of its mobile app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The company has already launched its iPad version but plans to export much of that experience to its smaller devices. Corporate Communications VP Steve Swasey didn't have a release date, but it should use the same direct H.264 streaming as for the tablet.

Apple itself has joined in the support of third-party apps for the iPad with an iPad app demo page. The section shows off titles optimized for the larger screen and includes many of the most recognizable titles, including the recipe app Epicurious, Marvel Comics' reader, and the periodic table explorer The Elements. Apple claims there are over 1,000 apps on launch, but most unofficial tallies put the actual count at 2,300 or more.
