Pre maker to rely on point-of-sale strategy

Pal is allegedly dropping its current advertising agency, Modernista, and is negotiating with several other agencies to handle upcoming campaigns, according to an AdvertisingAge report. The Boston-based agency was responsible for creating the surreal Pre ads featuring actress Tamara Hope.

The company has recently struggled to reignite sales for its webOS-based smartphones, which have recently exhibited poor performance despite a positive reception following the Pre launch early last year. The latest Pixi handset and Plus variants have also failed to reach sales targets.

A recent report suggests Palm is attempting to push sales by establishing several hundred "Brand Ambassadors" at Verizon stores to build awareness among Verizon employees. The company is also believed to be increasing exposure on billboards and pubic transport.

Following criticism surrounding the "Flow" campaign, Palm ousted its advertising head Scott Hancock and replaced him with Apple veteran Jeff Zwerner. The company is expected to continue to hone its efforts at the point-of-sale level.
