Samsung to bring more affordable Bada phones
At a developer meeting in Russia, Samsung showed a slide that revealed the future lineup of handsets that will run on its own Bada operating system. While specific information on each of the four new handsets is thus far unknown, each successive one will be more downmarket, as indicated by their projected prices. There will be two more candybar touchscreen handsets, along with two vertical sliding devices with full QWERTY hardware keyboards.
Thus far, only the Wave has been officially revealed as the first and to date only handset to run on Bada. The new UI can have as many as 10 homescreens, uses TouchWiz 3.0 to handle widgets and has embedded Flash support, including in the web browser. An ultimate inbox collects incoming IMs as well as happenings on Facebook and Twitter. There is also a social hub that brings together contacts from similar sources. The Wave is a high-end offering, as it sports a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED display and a 1GHz processor.
The company plans to sell nearly 1.5 million Bada-powered handsets, with pricing ranging from the equivalent of $340 and $685, unsubsidized. [via SamsungHub]
