Nokia brings Ovi Maps to E71, E66 for free

Nokia on Tuesday announced it has made its walk and drive Ovi Maps available for free to owners of the E71 and E66 smartphones. Previously, the free navigation software was only available for the newer E72, N97 mini and X6 handsets. Users need to download the latest Ovi Maps application from Nokia.com/maps to their computers before installing it to their device using Ovi Suite.

Users will also have the ability to sideload local maps onto their devices and browse them offline. Because the two handsets use the older S60 3.1 operating system, Nokia has not made its premium Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet guides and cautions that the E71 and E66 will be the last 3.1 handsets to offer this free version of free Ovi Maps. All new Nokia smartphones will have free walk and drive navigation, however.
