Framework includes several new camera functions

Apple's fourth-generation iPhone may integrate a camera flash module for capturing pictures in low-light conditions. Developers reportedly noticed a variety of new camera functions contained in the framework of the iPhone 4.0 beta released earlier on Thursday, according to AppleInsider. The code includes functions labeled AVCaptureDevice.hasFlash, AVCaptureDevice.flashMode, and AVCaptureDevice.hasTorch.

The latest report corroborates previous leaks indicating Apple had been searching for a supplier of LED flash components to be delivered sometime this year. Philips' Lumileds division was said to have been a likely vendor.

The lack of flash in current iPhone generations has been criticized by many users reporting poor camera performance in dim conditions. LED flash modules are now a common feature amongst many other high-end smartphones such as the Droid, Nexus One, or BlackBerries.

Despite the mounting evidence for camera flash, Apple has yet to disclose any details surrounding the next iPhone. The device is widely expected to be introduced sometime this summer.

    I can hasTorch?

hmm this may point to something more interesting then just a camera flash. I'm assuming that torch would mean a constant light source. That would be great for video.
