HTC may hint at dual touch phone or tablet
HTC was found to have applied for a patent on a potentially unique dual-touchscreen design. The book-like design would have a touchscreen on each "page," not unlike a Courier, but would change functions depending on the angle of the hinge. Angled like a notebook it would use one screen for a keyboard, but flat it would merge into a single display for tablet-style control.
The technique is somewhat like ASUS' Waveface concept but would use mechanical joints instead of a flexible OLED to make the design a reality.
It's unknown how much of the invention HTC plans to use, and at present it may be difficult as it would depend on having near-seamless displays. However, it could eventually lead to an all-touchscreen sequel to the Advantage or Shift with a larger potential screen size. Any hardware would likely use capacitive, finger-based touch and could be thinner thanks to smaller processors and longer-lived batteries. [via GadgetMix]
