Dell's next Android phones spoiled by Chinese government

Dell Mini 3T1, 3iX spotted in advance

Dell's plans to launch a new phone, as well as a port of an existing phone, have been given away in advance through the Chinese government's own Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center. The Mini 3T1 is completely new and would be a lower-cost phone with a smaller screen and a directional pad, either supplementing or replacing the touchscreen. It would also have a simpler two-megapixel camera (versus three on the Mini 3i) and support China Mobile's TD-SCDMA for 3G.

Also on tap would be the Mini 3iX, a phone already on sale in Brazil and coming in a slightly modified form to the US as the Aero. It keeps the very rounded design of the regular 3i but has HSPA and WCDMA for its 3G on China Unicom. The Chinese version would add support for the country's proprietary WAPI standard either in place of or next to Wi-Fi.

Neither TECC slip provided a clue as to the release dates or prices, and both the 3T1 and 3iX may not arrive for some time. Whether the 3T1 will reach the US at all is still unclear as well. [via PCWorld]
