Apple Store down ahead of Core i5 MBP refresh
A last-minute leak today has floated the likely specs for Apple's long-expected MacBook Pro refresh. Almost all models will use either 2.4GHz or 2.53GHz Core i5 processors, although the high-end 13- and 15-inch models may use the 2.66GHz Core i7; it's presumed the 17-inch model will have a BTO Core i7 option. Notably, AppleInsider also claimed that matte may go away in favor of a "glossy anti-glare" that would keep the glass but still cut down on reflections.
The refresh would also push up memory and storage across the board, with the entry 13-inch model now getting the same 4GB of RAM as others; its storage increases from just 160GB to 250GB, while the high-end 13-inch and base 15-inch notebooks move up from 250GB to 320GB. All of the more advanced models would have 500GB drives by default. It's not evident if they would get 640GB or 750GB upgrade options, but a 512GB solid-state drive is a rumored option.
Graphics haven't been discussed but will probably include NVIDIA's Optimus technology, which mates a GeForce 300M with Intel graphics and can switch on the fly to save power. No mention has been made of the plastic MacBook, but it may get a 2.26GHz Core i3 if it's updated at or near the same time as the pro systems. All the updates are expected to be unveiled shortly after 8:30AM this morning and will likely ship immediately from the Apple Store.
