Flip Slide HD packs 16GB storage, touch

Cisco as promised launched the Flip Slide HD as its first major pocket camera upgrade. The design is unique in depending on a slide-out, three-inch resistive touchscreen as its near-exclusive control scheme, with a capacitive touch strip to speed up scrolling through thumbnails. Choosing the new UI allows a greater emphasis on watching over capturing; the feature is reinforced by the new addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening in private.

The camera still records at 720p without optical zoom or image stabilization, but storage has been doubled versus the Flip Ultra HD and gives 16GB of room, or about four hours of raw video. A compression tool can pack this down to 12 hours. HDMI is possible but needs an optional adapter.

Cisco is already shipping the Mac- and Windows-ready camcorder to Amazon and physical retailers at a price of $280.
