KIN alerts to be delayed by up to 15 minutes

Microsoft's recently unveiled KIN handsets will apparently only automatically fetch information from any synchronized social networks every 15 minutes, unless users manually refresh the feeds. This, according to one engineer involved in the project, is in the interest of preserving battery life and because of immature social network APIs.

Another supposed, unofficial motivation for the 15-minute delay could be to keep data rates reasonable for the KIN's teenage target audience. [via Engadget]
