Sony Ericsson Spiro, Zylo Walkman phones coming

Sony Ericsson on Tuesday rolled out two entry but still unique Walkman phones, the Zylo and Spiro. The former is rare among phones as it supports uncompressed FLAC format and can play a song in the background while having a phone conversation to share it. The handset can also play back fake ambient sounds, helping owners back up their alibis when they don't want to reveal their actual locations.

The Zylo can upload photos to Flickr and Picasa as well as upload videos to YouTube. It supports quad-band GSM/EDGE but only dual-band 3G; FM radio and stereo Bluetooth are built-in. A microSDHC slot handles the brunt of storage. It has just a 2.6-inch display, but the presence of assisted GPS gives the Zylo's 3.2-megapixel camera geotagging capabilities.

The Spiro has a smaller 2.2-inch screen and a 2-megapixel camera. It still gets a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth stereo support and an FM radio tuner. In a rarity, it doesn't support 3G, although it still recognizes microSDHC cards for local content.

The two otherwise share quick access to Twitter and Facebook, as well as the TrackID feature, which names the artist and song for most music.

The Spiro can be had in black, pink, green and black, while the Zylo will ship in black, silver or pink. Both ship in the fall to certain, as-yet unnamed markets, and prices have not been revealed.
