RED demos 5K camera and readies smaller cam

RED as promised showed off a working example of the EPIC. The pro camera on display at NAB took 13 seconds to warm up but could shoot its intended 5K resolution. Its upgraded sensor wasn't given a full test, but in previous teases RED has shown it capable of much better light sensitivity than the 4K sensor in the older RED ONE.

The EPIC is already up for pre-order for existing RED camera owners and is still on track to ship as soon as July.

RED's smaller body and sensor combo, the Scarlet, also received a firmer timetable from company chief Jim Jannard. He believed the 3K camera was trailing about two months behind its larger cousin and that it should be ready in either August or September. The Scarlet is intended as a crossover camera and will work both as a traditional camcorder but also as a video-capable DSLR.

Red is behind on their releases but still way ahead of the competition.
