Hanshin intros Wireless USB home theater kit
South Korea's Hanshin is now producing the Icreon WUSB multimedia station that can connect an HDTV to a Windows-based PC wirelessly. The HUWB-3000 Kit relies on Alereon Wireless USB technology to send data over a short range at 220Mbps speeds. Users need to connect the source and output TVs using either VGA or HDMI and optical audio for 5.1-channel sound or standard jacks for stereo sound to the Icreon sender and receiver boxes.
This can be used to view Internet content from a PC on an HDTV, and can travel through walls. The secure wireless connection uses the WiMedia Ultra Wideband standard and has 128-bit AES encryption. The system supports 1920x1080 resolutions but only 720p HD video, along with 32-bit True Color depth.
Windows XP, Vista and 7 users can mirror or extend their desktops using the kit, while hardware or software vendors can customize the device to suit their needs and rebrand the system. Unnamed manufacturers will market a version of the system later this year in various markets around the world. [via Wireless-USBBlog]
