XPERIA X10 to get Android 2.1 in September?

Between a public announcement from a Sony Ericsson representative and an unofficial report from a UK-based cellphone website, the XPERIA X10 handset will get both Android 2.1 and multi-touch support in the second half of the year. The reports put the release at September, which is far enough away that the update may not be enough to lure buyers away from the likes of the HTC Incredible and HTC Evo 4G, both of which have similar specs to the X10 but bring larger screens or more recent software to the table.

The XPERIA X10 should be launched before the end of April and has a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU from Qualcomm, along with a 4-inch touchscreen. It will either ship with Android 1.6 or 2.0. [via Cellphone-Reviews]
