BlackBerry said to be filling in
Confirming earlier reports, Radio Shack is in the process of eliminating Palm's Pixi and Pre handsets from its store inventories, according to a Barron's report. The retailer is attempting to clear out space to prepare for the arrival of several newer handsets. The company has yet to define which devices will be added, although an unnamed BlackBerry is said to be a potential candidate.
“This is in line with Radio Shack’s normal product planning process - there is a designated amount of space in stores for handsets and they work to keep the line up of devices as current as possible,” said Sprint spokesman Scott Sloat.
The move appears to further Palm's ongoing troubles, as its current smartphone lineup has failed to maintain sales momentum. Several reports suggest the company is currently seeking a buyer, while executives have received sizable incentives to stay onboard through the current crisis.
