Fusion Garage may have only sold 64 JooJoo tablets

JooJoo gaffe may have shown small customer base

An error this morning may have exposed a small customer base for the JooJoo tablet. Rather than use the BCC field to keep a customer feedback request secret, Fusion Garage used the regular To: field and made the list public. Only 64 buyers were on the list.

It's unclear if the UneasySilence list is comprehensive, as it may represent simply the limit on the server for group messages.

The JooJoo has had a difficult path to release as it has faced both the legal dispute over its origin as well as multiple delays that pushed back its final release to just before the launch of the iPad. While this provided an opportunity to rework the interface, it also resulted in some customers holding off on purchases and more direct comparisons. The JooJoo has a larger, higher resolution screen and an NVIDIA Ion chip that can handle 1080p video but also has half the battery life of its Apple counterpart and can't usually work outside of the web.

    D'OH

I think Cisco's "Audrey" internet 'appliance' sold more than 64 units.

It doesn't really matter whether they sold 64

or 6400. Forget humiliation. They rushed a product that wasn't ready into a market they weren't even sure existed. They're not going to make any money from this product. Far wealthier companies are going to soon be vomiting Android tablets all over the place and Fusion Garage never stood a chance. Fusion Garage wouldn't even hold up to Archos because at least Archos already has some customer base and built products that were pretty much tablets for quite a while.

    Equally speculative...

Is the possibility that the email generator they were using only allows for 64 slots in the "To" field per email.

    Just a thought.

    hard to believe

I find it very hard to believe that only 64 joojoos were sold. This thing got a ton of publicity on the TechCrunch website when Arrington was involved and then a ton more publicity with the whole break up thing.

Anything is possible but I figured they would have sold thousands (rather than tens) of these things. Look at all the c*** that people buy - I guess people are more discriminating than I thought.

    Typical lack of thought story

As everyone knows, tons of people got multiple iPads,
carrying them out of the store in twos and threes.

A real journalist would have sent email to the JooJoo list and asked the
    question.

Who is the mystery figure, name obscured by JooJoo, who bought
thousands of tablets and had them delivered to Fargo, ND?

Inquiring minds must know at once.

    Response to joojoo blog post

Hello, I'm with the Fusion Garage PR team, and I wanted to provide information about this post. The e-mail in question was sent by a temporary customer support employee to a select group of customers. These customers were selected for participation in an ongoing feedback program because they had previously contacted Fusion Garage with questions or suggestions. This list in no way reflects Fusion Garage’s entire customer base. Sales have continued to grow after the public release of the joojoo. We have taken the appropriate internal measures to ensure this type of situation does not happen again. Thanks, Rory

    90 pre-orders

Keep in mind that court documents show that JooJoo only had 90 pre-orders, so 64 customers are not too far off.

    lousy website

the website sort-of has a clean look, but no screen shots, what an oversight.
