Nokia launches first Symbian TD-SCDMA phones
Nokia on Friday introduced two new TD-SCDMA handsets for China Mobile with the C5 and X5. Both handsets support native 3G on China Mobile and get the first jointly-run mobile application store, the Mobile Market-Ovi Store. They also bring preloaded music, video and IM apps specific to the region.
As it turns out, the X5 is not the full touchscreen handset as previously believed. The X5 is a conventional candybar design but still sports the Symbian OS and gets a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and video recording capabilities. Users get a 2.4-inch display with 240x320 resolution. Ovi Maps isn't included and instead comes with a proprietary app. The device can be had in black, white or red when it launches in China later this spring.
The Nokia C5 is a more entry-level device, but gets the same camera and display as the X5. Available in silver or black, the device has less preloaded apps, accounting only for Fetion IM and 139 mailbox for e-mail. It also ships this spring, though pricing hasn't been announced.
