Samsung shows STORY Station drive with USB 3.0

Samsung today refreshed its STORY Station external hard drives to add a full USB 3.0 interface. The 3.5-inch external hard drive will bring peak transfer speeds of about 5Gbps, or about 10 times faster than the common USB 2.0 standard. Like most drives of its type, it still works on USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports at their slower maximum speeds.

The STORY Station 3.0 has three energy-saving modes that include idle, sleep and suspend. The new drive can be had in either 1TB or 2TB capacities. It ships with Samsung Auto Backup, SecretZone and SafetyKey software for data encryption and password protection on Windows PCs, but it should work with Macs.

The Samsung STORY Station 3.0 drives will be available worldwide in April, though pricing has not yet been revealed.
