Sony EVIL camera to be called NEX3, NEX5, due May

One of Sony's mirrorless digital cameras has been spotted in an Asian pub. The camera is now known to be called the NEX3, as a tiny photo reveals. The 14-megapixel camera will share its ExmorHD sensor with another in the series, dubbed the NEX5. Sony's higher-end model should include faster video recording frame rates along with the capability to shoot 1080p videos where the NEX3 would record at 720p resolution.

The lens bundled with the NEX3 should be a 16mm f2.8 pancake lens. It has a diameter of 49mm and has chrome accents, while being bigger than both the Olympus 17mm f2.8 lens (37mm) and the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 (42mm). The larger size is due to built-in image stabilization.

An expected official announcement about the two cameras is expected from Sony on May 11th. While prices remain unknown, they should be competitive with Micro Four Thirds standard cameras. [via SonyAlphaRumors]
