LG Optimus GT540 due in the UK in May
LG on Tuesday formally launched its first touch-only Android phone in the Optimus. Previously known as the GT540, the device is being billed as a simple-to-use smartphone but has an extensive amount of customization beyond the usual. The homescreen can be customized to show between three and seven home screens with commonly used applications, and up to 10 editable categories.
A special social manager speeds up access to social networking sites from the home screen and can support multiple accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and Bebo. LG adds non-standard support for DiVX and XviD videos. Captured videos can be edited after the fact with music and text.
As a relative starter phone, the Optimus packs a 3-megapixel camera but gets geotagging, face detection or even action detection.
The Optimus will launch in the UK on May 1st, though pricing has not been announced. If or when the device will come to other markets, such as North America, remains unknown. When asked at CES, LG reps told Electronista didn't know for certain about a US launch.
