Nintendo Wii in black finally official for US

Nintendo on Monday finally confirmed its plans to bring a black Wii to the US. The color previously only seen in Europe and Japan will arrive May 9th and will include a MotionPlus controller add-on along with Wii Sports Resort and the original Wii Sports. Newer bundles of the original, white console will also now include both MotionPlus and the extra game.

Both colors will still cost $200. The black model already has color-matched accessories in shops, such as the Wii remote and Classic Controller Pro.

The console launch comes as Nintendo is hoping to rekindle interest in its system. Although the Wii still regularly outsells the PS3 and Xbox 360, according to NPD data, demand has softened relative to its height in 2008 and 2009 as price cuts on the Microsoft and Sony rivals have negated much of the initial cost advantage.
