Intel may have hinted at Atom-based Nokia phone
A Nokia device using MeeGo on top of Intel's new Atom Z600 is due by the end of the year, both of the companies may have inadvertently confirmed today. Intel director Pankaj Kedia said devices using both the Intel/Nokia developed OS and the Z600 should be available by the end of the year. Whether these would be phones, tablets or netbooks like the Booklet 3G weren't mentioned.
In addressing the Pocket-lint story, Nokia wouldn't confirm any specific hardware but did note that it plans to launch a MeeGo device this year.
Nokia's plans for devices outside of Symbian have largely been uncertain this year, as its link with Intel and plans for MeeGo have meant the company won't necessarily be tied to ARM for phone hardware or Symbian and Windows for device software. Rumors have surfaced of a gaming capable tablet, but little has come of it to imply the Z600 instead of an ARM chip.
