NEC adds larger 27-inch MultiSync pro display

NEC had released its second professional display monitor after the initial MultiSync PA241W with the 27-inch MultiSync PA271W. The new display has a 10-bit p-IPS panel with a resolution of 2560x1440, along with internal 14-bit programmable 3D lookup tables. At the same time, NEC released its MultiProfiler display configuration application and SpectraViewII version 1.1.04 color calibration.

The monitor is meant for digital image professionals and has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio along with a 300cd/m2 brightness. Connections include DisplayPort, two DVI-D inputs and a USB hub with five ports. Gray-to-gray response time is set at 7ms.

The MultiProfiler app is made to ease the feature control process of MultiSync PA Series monitors, including Picture Mode preset configuration. There is a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode that lets users view two video signals at the same time, along with a Picture-by-Picture configuration. MultiProfiler manages the display’s USB hub and maps the various monitor inputs. The software is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9, Windows 2000 and newer versions.

The MultiSync PA271W will ship later in May, priced at $1,399.

    27" iMac

For an additional $300, you can have a 27" iMac. Same resolution and, in my opinion, prettier to look at.

    and

It's also a lot more adjustable color-wise for photo and graphic professionals.

...and when the display starts flickering for no reason? You're out a computer too!

I guess it's prettier to look at it you like to look at your reflection? ;)

    Re: 27" iMac

Yeah, you are so right. It couldn't be that a separate monitor is for those people who already have a computer, could it? Or those wacky folks who just can't stand the thought of buying a new monitor every time they want a new computer.

And I guess we ignore the fact that it also has 5 USB ports and, more importantly, 4 different video ports.

Now, where does one plug in their PCI-Express audio cards into that iMac?

    27" imac

the imac also doesn't come with an optional display calibrator that will program the hardware LUT for the most accurate color, or have a multi-year warranty (NEC displays usually have a four year warranty). How about 97% of Adobe RGB color space? Screen height AND tilt? Last, this model has a built in KVM switch.

    LED? HDCP?

And something that Apple's quality can't give: 4 year warranty.

    No word on hdcp?
Is this still not led backlit?

    I'd be interested

I'd be interested to hear an account from someone using the iMac 27 and this NEC 27 pro screen side by side. I mean, it's just anecdotal because maybe the iMac's calibration is ok and maybe they have it placed so there's no reflection issue on the glossy iMac screen, but that's exactly what I'd like to hear -- whether the brightness and color range and contrast are comparable or not, on a working-with-it-for-hours basis.

It's always fun to argue back and forth, but kind of pointless until you actually DO have data points.

    nec display

NEC has been providing the best ever range of monitors since it's inception..Moreover, it's customer service is really very commendable..This makes it the industry leader..The new 50 inch PlasmaSync

display will tempt anybody with curves so fabulous and a 12-bit color..It is really a catch!I've owned a 30 inch crt display from nec and can say safely that it's services are indeed very good..The best!
