Google outs Goggles 1.1 with auto translation

Google has released an update to Google Goggles that includes a translation feature. Users only need to highlight the section they would like to translate and press the shutter button to scan text. If Goggles recognizes the text, it will offer a translation option. The feature can now recognize English, French, Italian, German and Spanish and translates to many more languages.

Google says it's working on recognizing other Latin-based languages, as well as others that include Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.

Other than the translation function, Goggles 1.1 improves barcode recognition, has a larger artwork library, can recognize more products and logos, improves the user interface, and can search based on images in a phone's image gallery. It needs Android 1.6 or newer.
