Sprint says it had wanted Android 2.1 earlier

Sprint on Friday sent notice to subscribers that it's still working on rolling out Android 2.1 upgrades for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. It hinted at delays and said it "had hoped to have this resolved by now" but still expected the release to appear before the end of the spring. What had sparked the delay wasn't said.

The Hero should already be getting Android 2.1 in other regions. Both it and the Moment will get a large slew of new features, such as speed improvements that will include a modern HTML5 browser. Either will have full access to the current Android Market and support the new voice command recognition that has existed on most phones since the Motorola Droid launched in November of last year.
