Handset features customized Android UI

Garmin has finally disclosed launch details for its Garminfone handset, which will ship next month on T-Mobile for $199. The device is based on the company's nuvifone A50, however the nuvifone's feature phone OS has been placed with Android.

The company is still using its own customized Garmin UI atop the standard Android system. The handset can be used to access turn-by-turn directions, while the Voice Studio utility allows users to replace the synthetic vocalizations with their own voices.

The Garminfone also offers a range of basic smartphone features such as Wi-Fi, a three-megapixel camera, and T-Mobile 3G connectivity. [via Engadget]
