Samsung P580 pro notebook gets Core i3, i5

Samsung on Tuesday brought out a new business notebook, the 15.6-inch P580. It targets the mid-range user who needs performance with both Intel's new Core i3 and Core i5 processors; NVIDIA's GeForce GT 330M handles graphics. The LED-backlit display avoids the trend towards glossy and uses a matte finish with better visibility in outdoor or high-contrast environments. Windows 7 Professional is preloaded onto the hard drive, though its capacity remains unknown at this time.

The chassis is covered in rubber paint for durability, easy grip and scratch resistance. A free-fall sensor protects the hard drive and its contents from shock damage. Security is considered important and centers on Phoenix FailSafe, which remotely tracks a stolen notebook and helps erase sensitive files. There are also both BIOS and hard drive passwords.

Wi-Fi, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, four USB 2.0 ports with power-off charging and an eSATA connection are also integrated. 2GB of RAM is standard, with 4GB optional.

Samsung has not set pricing or a release date for the P580.
