Dell adds AMD to Studio XPS desktops

Dell helped kick off AMD's 6-core desktop Phenom IIs by launching its first AMD-based performance desktop, the Studio XPS 7100. It uses the familiar chassis of earlier models but scales up to a 2.8GHz Phenom II X6. Systems scale up to a Radeon HD 5670 graphics card but can also carry as much as 16GB of memory and 4TB of disk space from the factory.

To match the expansion, every system has a 460W power supply strong enough to handle both the X6 line and more advanced video than what Dell itself offers.

Moving to AMD keeps the PC prices low, as an entry system starts at $499 but still has a quad-core 2.8GHz Phenom II X4, 3GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and faster-than-usual Radeon HD 4200 integrated video. Faster options move to a Radeon HD 5450 and higher clock speeds, while the point of entry for a 6-core processor is $899 with a 2.6GHz Phenom II X6, a Radeon HD 5670, 6GB of RAM and a 1TB disk.

    Dell Studio XPS 7100

Dell XPS 7100 is very similar to Intel Studio XPS 8000 series workstations. The only difference is that the 7100 has a dark gray panel on the front and the 8000 series, while the black forehead. But apart from that, these two shifts of similar design, both have gadget tray on top and the USB ports and microphone / headset. On the front there are two doors concealing 3.5-inch optical drive and a pair of USB ports. Dell xps 7100 is the best value for money, have a WLAN card and Blu-ray optical discs.Dell xps 7100 is the best value for money, have a WLAN card and Blu-ray optical discs.
