GM to partner with Google on Sync competitor?
General Motors is in talks with Google on developing an in-car telematics system to compete with Ford and Microsoft's Sync, a rumor claimed today. At least one source for Motor Trend believed Google's Android mobile OS will be adapted for in-car use. The system would allow GM's cars to pair up with any smartphone for wireless conversations, music streaming and perhaps even more, such as opening, starting or adjusting the systems of the cars; Sync can't currently touch the car's full equipment.
As Android has navigation apps built-in, it may make GM's own OnStar turn-by-turn navigation service redundant, which could complicate negotiations between the two. Google Maps Navigation already does turn-by-turn directions with voice guidance, although its dependence on an active Internet connection makes it impractical for leaving the country or driving into remote areas.
The GM and Google tie-up remains a rumor at this time, and isn't expected to be officially confirmed until sometime in 2011.

Turn by Turn takes on new meanng
So with google controlling the entire car now your turn by turn directions will include ads instructing you to look at the electronic billboard on the side of the road. If you don't then android will shut your car down.
