BlueAnt S4 ships entirely hands-free speakerphone

BlueAnt on Monday launched its S4 Bluetooth speakerphone for in-vehicle use. The device is said to be entirely handsfree once powered up, triggering it by saying "BlueAnt speak to me." Another phrase will trigger the voice-dialing feature, and then stored contacts can be called by speaking their name.

Incoming calls are also identified with the speakerphone audibly reading them out. They can then be answered or ignored by speaking those words.

The device can pair with two cell phones, and store up to 2,000 phonebook entries from each. It uses text to speech (TTS) technology, and thanks to partner Vlingo, the S4 can read out text messages and e-mails using Vlingo's SafeReader app. SafeReader is compatible with BlackBerry and Android 2.0 or newer smartphones. SafeReader is activated by pressing a button and saying "Start SafeReader."

Users can also access stock quotes, movie times, weather information, sports results, news and traffic updates by voice thanks to Bing search engine compatibility.

There is A2DP support, so users can send spoken turn-by-turn directions from compatible navigation devices or their cellphones or stream music from supported devices. The S4 is also the first BlueAnt device that can be upgraded using future firmware that can be downloaded free of charge.

Battery life is rated at 20 hours of talk time, or 700 hours of standby. The S4 is now at Best Buy and will arrive at AT&T stores on May 23rd. It costs $100.
