Battery rating improves, tri-wing screws continue

iFixit has released its MacBook Unibody Mid 2010 teardown. The MacBook Unibody Model A1342 Mid 2010 has a new battery, which has gained in rating, improving from 60Wh to a 63.5Wh rating, with no change in size, but a minimal increase in weight. Tri-wing screws are still used for securing the battery, to the dismay of iFixit engineers. The overall impression is one of little change in structure and design. The NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics (256MB sharedDDR3 SDRAM) is new, replacing the GeForce 9400M.

The new MacBook provides a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3 MB on-chip L2 shared cache. Its components include Realtek RTL8251CA Ethernet, Cirrus Logic 4206ACNZ audio, CYPRESS CY8C24 16 KB Flash PSoC, and dual TDK 6T213HF packages. It supports audio out over Mini DisplayPort. The Bluetooth model is BCM943224PCIEBT and the 8X Superdrive is a Panasonic UJ898; both are carryovers from the previous model.

Apple launched the new MacBook update last week, featuring a faster CPU and GPU, with 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard disk standard on the $1000 notebook.

    All that space!

I can't remember the last time I used the optical drive in my Macbook. Looking at the photos above drives home how much space is wasted by it. I think Apple were right about the Air just not at the time and certainly not at the price.

    True... for some.

True. Can you imagine if the whole space of optical drive was battery? Or if they used the space to build in REAL graphics? I'm using a 2.8ghz MBP right now because it has dedicated graphics, but a 13" would be really nice.
