Storage expected to be hybrid SSD/HDD
Seagate has launched a teaser page for an upcoming storage product that is claimed to boost system performance by up to 150 percent. It is claimed to "learn about its user" to decrease disk time, boot time, and load times. Seagate has partnered with ASUS to take one of the latter company's gaming systems "to another level."
Although the teaser does not provide any specific details, the storage surprise is expected to be a SSD/HDD hybrid, combining the fast load times of solid-state modules with the cheap and high-capacity storage offered by conventional disks.
ZDNet suggests that Seagate could be ready to announce the Momentus XT drive, which is listed for preorder on Provantage.com for just over $130. Specifications include a 4GB SLC Nand flash chip, 32MB of cache, and a 7,200rpm, 500GB HDD in a 2.5-inch enclosure.
Full details will be revealed during Seagate's special event scheduled for May 26.
