Handset rooted by Google I/O attendees
The HTC Evo 4G has already been rooted, nearly two weeks ahead of the official launch on Sprint. DotSpots founder Matt Mastracci reportedly worked with several other developers to quickly root an Evo that had been provided as a free gift to attendees of Google's I/O conference.
After several hours of work, the team found a way to install a superuser tool to obtain root privileges. The root is demonstrated in a YouTube video, although specific details have yet to be disclosed. Mastracci suggests that the same exploit is unlikely to work on the HTC Incredible.
Most customers who weren't at Google I/O will have to wait until June 4 to buy the Evo 4G.
