OCZ boosts fast SSDs to 480GB

OCZ gave a rare treat to performance users today with upgrades to the capacities of both the Agility 2 and Vertex 2. Either now has options for 480GB of usable space; both go beyond the 400GB ceiling for most of OCZ's SSD line. Either is now considered large enough that it can be used as a full system drive rather than just a boot drive.

The two continue to fit into any 2.5-inch, SATA or SATA II drive bay and differ mostly in random write speeds. Both can read at a maximum 250MB per second and write at 240MB per second, but the Vertex 2 can handle random writes at 22,500 IOPS (input/output operations per second) where the Agility 2 tops out at 10,000. OCZ doesn't normally provide pricing for its drives, though the new capacities could push the pricing higher.
