Acer updates home server, shows streaming hub
Acer at its event today showed two new devices meant for multimedia streaming in the home, in the form its RevoView streaming hub and an updated version of the easyStore home server. While little is known about the former, its name suggests it is similar to the Revo small form factor PC that has NVIDIA's Ion platform. Acer staff didn't confirm the presence or absence of Ion, however.
The device does get USB inputs for connecting external and thumb drives, memory card slots and SAMBA and UPnP network support. Its hard drive can be as large as 2TB. Video outputs include composite, component and HDMI. While DiVX isn't supported, it does show AVI, MP4, MOV, RMVB and a few other less popular codecs. The device will also have YouTube streaming.
The easyStore gets updated with a believed 1.66GHz, single-core Atom CPU, double the RAM at 2GB and the latest version of Windows Home Server. Users can back up connected network computers or an external hard drive by plugging it in.
While prices or a release date for the RevoView have not been revealed, the updated easyStore server should cost about $500 US for a 1TB version when released at a later date. [via PCAuthority]
